i thought i would make a thread for people to be able to post their thoughts after chat! sometimes i have more stuff to say after i digest a story a bit. since people have said they wanted more discussion i thought this would be a nice idea. but obviously, if you don't have anything to say, don't feel pressured to come up with stuff. i just like talking about stories.

anyways... the reason i wanted to make the thread in the first place was i was trying to remember just now, "wasn't there some crazy movie or something i watched that had some really twisted part with an amputee who was trapped in his bed?" but then i realized quickly it was actually MJ's story! that was awesome! i love when i'm able to imagine something in writing SO well that I have a visual memory later of what happened. i also was thinking about jordan's stories and how it would be cool if sometimes some interested people might want to do skeleton chat stuff focusing mainly on discussion or even doing research. (when i was preparing for a new round recently it REALLY unstuck me to go to the library and look at some books about south american conflicts and stuff.) we've done just writing and we always do sharing but we don't usually get to do a lot of in depth talking because sharing takes so long. but i am really excited for the comedy that will ensue from your schoolgirl story. i think you do comedy very well. sorry i only mostly had joke suggestions. i couldn't think of anything very useful to say other than i think the conspiracy behind the attacks is a good idea. one last thing, i was trying to think of who I think tzila probably looks like, and it's this girl: that's who i would cast in the movie. who would lauren cast?

1. 'the bad neighbors' is basically suburbanite se7en. marjorie is morgan freeman, max sits on emile's shoulders and together they form brad pitt. (jackson pollock is the wife. don't look in the box.) 2. i would love to get together with some folks to just do a library date? like we all go to central library & set up camp at a table and take notes together. my only concern is that we might get Too Loud and get shushed by a librarian, which is a combination of One of My Greatest Fears and also a personal sexual fantasy 3. i think i was mentally envisioning tzila as like a very young, red-headed mayim bialik but i don't know why & i like your fancast better 4. last night the words "blumpkin academy" popped up in my head again while i was on the max and i laughed out loud. i like the name because it paves the way for the headmaster & more kool-aid drinking teachers to refer to their students & alumni unironically as "blumpkind," i.e. "and this is a great accomplishment not just for our most esteemed alumnus Jeffrey Twinkleton, but also an accomplishment for All Blumpkind."

first off, i feel super ashamed of totally disrespecting skeleton chat by just running out the door yesterday. theres not a good excuse, it was just plain rude. i didnt even really say goodbye to my nice friends. so i want to apologize again for that bc i wanted to more fully explain why i felt bad.
also, im definitely coming around to magic
im going to post more throughout the day i think on individual stories etc

it's cool, it immediately devolved into us kvetching about the expected for like an hour which really drained you last time. i was really proud of us for explicitly not talking about that stuff during actual skelchat though, even with the unexpected hounding from outside parties. go team!!!!
magic is basically tweaking reality to be a lil cooler than it already is, and isn't that what writing is all about? using real science to inform fantasy notions is an exciting way to build a system-- one of my favorite webcomics, "unsounded" by ashley cope literally uses programming as the basis for her magic system and hearing her talk in-depth about very practical rationale behind how and why things work in her world is always super nerdy & interesting. i def recommend it. but again i find myself thinking about why lazy system building can sometimes be so convincing for people, a la star wars nerds arguing about dumb star wars magic. i personally enjoy the puzzle presented by a system that doesn't make sense, and trying to impose sense on it, or to determine what the logic behind building it is. like with harry potter universe magic, where there's never an underlying explanation for WHY any of that stuff works, but there's definitely a rhyme and reason to the *way* magic works that rowling seems to have an intuitive grasp on and can communicate to her readers.
also super pumped to help the Haunted Mansion with their smashley shrine. (@smashley post art post art POST ART TO SKELCHAAAAT)
