I've been referencing this website (it uses FRAMES! it's like the year 2000 never ended!) while working on the fairy tale story. Lauren & Mike might find it useful. The pieces on medieval contraception are WEIRD. Also makeup? Apparently all medieval makeup either had poop or poison in it. Amazing. Anybody else? What do you crack open to look up, like, that one thing or browse for inspiration and then suddenly you have ten tabs open and you haven't written a word in like an hour. (I also like keeping the SimplyRain generator open for white noise. Anybody got any background noises they prefer for writing particular things?)

Thanks MJ!
I usually use my rain app (it's like the rainy day website, but has a variety of sounds you can mix together to make a personalized soundscape. I usually go with 'thunder storm' and 'ocean waves' mixed together). I also love this website: Written? Kitten! It lets you select a word count and every time you hit that count you get a picture of a cute kitten! I used it throughout college whenever I had to write a particularly daunting paper (my entire 48 page Kerouac paper was written in chunks on it >>'). I believe there's also ones with other animals if kittens aren't your thang.
This one isn't writing related, but can be a nice relaxing thing if writing is stressing you out and you need a break: Paint a Nebula. It lets you create your own nebulas, and I personally find it hella relaxing after a long day or if the writing muses are being cruel.

you should check out the e-version of this cool book from the 1660s. play.google.com/store/books/details?id=nDYVAAAAQAAJ&rdid=book-nDYVAAAAQAAJ&rdot=1it's got a lot of crazy stuff in it about the medicinal and scientific beliefs of that time. lots of fucking batty things about like, for example, putting stuff in your kids' eyes to change the color of them (though the author cautions to maybe not do this if your kids need to use their eyes) also i sometimes use a chrome extension called stayfocusd to help me keep on task. you can put in approved websites (i have pandora and google and stuff) and block yourself from visiting anything else.
